Sewing a removable Peter Pan collar - Les lubies de Cadia

Les Claudinettes: 4 patterns for removable collars

Here it is, the last pattern the year! For December, I wanted to offer you a quick sewing project: Les Claudinettes ! In this pattern, you'll findfour versions of removable collarsinspiredby the famous Peter Pan collar!

The Peter Pan collar: the accessory to brighten up your sweaters!

For all four versions of this pattern, the collar slips under a crew neck sweater or sweatshirt and fastens with three small buttons at the front. This can be particularly handy if you don't want to wear a shirt under your sweater. These removable collars will allow you to jazz up your winter outfits while staying warm.

The removable Peter Pan collar: 4 pattern versions

As I mentioned, you will have a choice of four versions, which I will describe in detail here.

Let's start withversion 1, which is a classic round neck:

Forversion 2, you can sew a Peter Pan collar embellished with a gathered ruffle. For my version, I used polka dot tulle for the ruffle.

As forversion 3, it features a scalloped collar.

Finally, forversion 4, you can sew a Peter Pan collar embellished with "petals" on the front.

What fabric should I use for Les Claudinettes?

To sew these removable collars, I recommend usingcotton poplin. This fabric has the right stiffness to hold its shape well. I used white, but feel free to use colored and/or patterned fabrics.

I haven't sewn any versions with a flowing fabric. I think that with this type of fabric, the collar will be less stable when you wear it. If you still want to use it, I recommend interlining it.

A pattern to beginners

The pattern Les Claudinettes" pattern is a small sewing project for advanced beginners. It's an opportunity to try your hand at a slightly more elaborate project without having to sew an entire shirt. This pattern a little precision, but with a little patience, it's nothing too difficult. This project can be made with fabric scraps, so there's less stress about"Oh no, I'm afraid of wasting my beautiful fabric 😱."

If you are new to sewing, buttonholesmay seem daunting:

  • There is nothing complicated about this technique, but it is true that if the thread gets tangled in the sewing machine, a buttonhole can very quickly ruin a garment!
  • Even if you're afraid of making them, I strongly advise you to make them on your detachable collar: since it's a small project, you can redo it very quickly if you mess up your buttonholes.
  • And if you succeed on the first try, you'll see that it wasn't rocket science.
  • In any case, I recommend that you first test buttonholes on your fabric scraps!

An alternative to buttonholes is to use snaps or Velcro.

Finally, for version 3, if you've never sewn scallops before, don't panic, I explain everything in this video:

So, what do you think of this new pattern "Les Claudinettes"areavailablein the store! I hope pattern like this new pattern !

See you soon,

Cadia
