How do you adjust your sewing machine for thick fabric?
With these low temperatures, I'm sure you're busy making yourself some warm clothes. The problem is that winter fabrics, for example, areoften thick.Have youever had thick fabric get stuck in your sewing machine? In this situation, you may be tempted to push the fabric to make it slide. However, this can cause uneven stitches or even damage the needle.
In this article, you will find a tip to remedy this problem. For your information, I have aBrother FS40, and I know that many of you use it too 😊
Why do thick fabrics get stuck?
Firstly, when you start sewing thick fabric, it may not feed properly because the presser foot is not level. This means that the presser foot exerts less pressure on the fabric, which is not in proper contact with the feed dogs of the sewing machine. As a result, the fabric does not feed through!
The solution: the crowbar pin
So, to level the crowbar, we will need to use the crowbar pin. To do this:
- Lift the crowbar,
- Position your fabric in the desired location if it has moved.
- Next, you will need to performthree actions simultaneously: keep the crowbar level, press the pin, and lower the crowbar.
When you release everything, your presser foot should be level. Then, when you start sewing, the fabric should normally be fed through.
See you soon!
